Best dog tug toy 2023

Some dogs have a preference for one type of tug toy over another. Your dog’s favorite tug toy may be different than your next door neighbor’s. We’ve tested and we know that there is no single best tug toy for all dogs.

Large dogs, for example, can pull with tremendous force and need a heavy duty tug toy.

Larger dogs have larger jaws and need a tug toy that doesn’t exceed their mouth size. Smaller dogs have smaller jaws and need a tug toy that isn’t too big for their mouths.

Since each dog is different, we decided to choose a winner across different sizes. Small, medium, and large/power chewers.

1. West Paw Bumi

The Bumi tug toy is an interesting tug toy made right here in the USA.

The Bumi looks like any tug toy at first glance, but if you grab one end and your dog holds the other, you’ll notice something unusual – it stretches out over twice its normal length!

The unique flexing makes this Bumi like no other tug toy that we reviewed.

Our doggy testers shook their heads to either side without pulling our arms around too much.

This was more difficult to get a good grip than the tug toys that come with a rigid handle.

It wasn’t so difficult, but you did have a problem with your grip during the tug-of-war competition.

The Bumi is an ideal recommendation for people who want smaller dogs without pulling too much.

The Logo Flex is a firm, stretchy rubber that is both soft and flexible.

This non-toxic rubber is FDA-compliant. You could eat it. You probably shouldn’t.

It’s nice to know that the material is safe for your four-legged friend.

If you’re on the fence about whether or not to get the large Bumi, you should know that you don’t

All dogs come in different sizes, so this may be a personal preference of yours.

Like all West Paw products, the Bumi has a lifetime guarantee.

We do not sell the toy or a toy of the same model number and make / manufacturer, as this could result in a faulty toy.

If you store your dog toys indoors, you’ll be glad to know that the Bumi is top-rack dishwasher safe.

You’ll be cleaning the dog’s mouth more quickly with this new toothbrush! Its cleaning action will eliminate dried dog drool.

In the minds of many people, the best tug toy was for small dogs, like the Boston Terrier and Jack

2. SodaPup Tug War

The small dog pick is also suitable for medium-sized dogs, and we recommend this for those dogs that are a little stronger than your typical pet store pit bull.

It’s a one-sided game if you can’t hold onto the bar properly.

The tug toy you choose for medium-sized dogs will depend on your dog’s needs. Choose from many options such as the Puppy Pups Puppy Paw tug toy or the Petmate Natural Rubber Tug Toy.

In their quest to make dog toys that were actually designed around soda, SodaPup have invented a range of toys that are fun for both the owner and dog.

One of their toy products is called a tug toy. It’s a tug toy and it works like a can opener.

And don’t be fooled by the SodaPup toy’s new shape – it’s not a gimmick.

It’s all about the fit, the quality, and the feel of the clothes.

When the user grips the rope, the knot tightens around the handle and the puller. This creates tension in the rope which then becomes very easy-to-grip.

PuppyPrene is a unique and patented rubber compound developed by SodaPup. It’s softer and more forgiving than conventional puppy toy material.

It’s also FDA-compliant and non-toxic, but it’s also biodegradable.

No matter how you toss your plastic water bottle, it keeps breaking. The durable, flexible rubber is a hit with any dog who grabs it.

I used the medium length handle and the medium width blade. The handle was comfortable enough for me to hold and maneuver the tool around the dog without much effort.

After all the fun is over, toss the SodaPup tug toy into the dishwasher on the top rack to easily remove any slobber and other gunk that it got on its face during play

When you buy a SodaPup product, we’re confident you’ll love it. But if it’s not working well for you, send it back. We’ll replace it. It’s that simple.

If your dog ruins this tug toy, SodaPup will give you a replacement.

Your dog can bite through anything you give him. That’s the dog toy equivalent of a bone.

Your big-headed dog is better suited to the big dog recommendations in this book…

3. Goughnuts Tug MaXX

If you have a hard time finding a toy that will keep them occupied for hours at a time without causing them any harm, it might be a good idea to get one of these toys.

Of all the tug toys we reviewed, the one we’re most confident will hold up to rough play is only one.

The Goughnuts Maxx are an awesome product. They don’t need to be fancy. You can get them anywhere.

Two solid rubber rings fused together, or the “Fusion Grip” as it’s known in the UK.

There’s more to a tug toy than meets the eye. In fact, it could be called plain and boring. It’s time to discover some of its hidden treasures.

But it’s this simple design that makes it the perfect toy for aggressive games of tug-of-war.

Nothing can go wrong. Besides, you’re playing in the heat of the game, so nothing will show up.

Your dog has one of his paws on your ring finger and his other paw on your index finger.

The dense rubber has a slight give so that your dog can get a good grip, and doesn’t slide away.

I had fun swinging this hammer for 20 minutes straight. The curved handle feels smooth in the hand. It was easy to grip with a clenched fist.

If your tug toy gets damaged, return it to the manufacturer. They will send you a new one.

Yes, you do have to pay for return postage, but it’s still cheaper than paying for a new product.

As one of the few silicone dog toys out there, the Paw-Zee squeak toy has a mild rubber scent.

This is a smell that should be expected, as it is made from rubber.

For a small dog the Goughnuts Maxx is too heavy to be effective.

This tug toy is much more sturdy and heavy than it looks. I love the fact that it was made right here in the USA.

If you have a power chewer that is giving you grief, the Goughnut MaXX should be your choice.

4. Tuffy No Stuff Mega Ring

Puppy teeth love to chew.

These pointy, little teeth are great for tearing anything to shreds – dog toys, plush toys, even your shoes!

We tested the sharpness of puppy teeth in pulling rubber from the edges of toys. We found that they’re perfect for pulling it off.

Our top choice for dog training gear is made from fabric. Another benefit of fabric is that it’s soft on the gums of your pup.

This is the ideal tug toy for a gentle game of puppy play.

The reinforced stitching and edges showed only very little sign of wear.

This soft tug toy was well made, it doesn’t have loose strands or fraying, and it’s perfect for training dogs on their leash.

What I like best about these rings is they don’t contain stuffing.

I’ve had puppies, and if they bite through the fabric, they might swallow some polyester stuffing.

The “ring and squeakers” is the best toy for the holidays! Inside the ring is a little squeaker.

Great for a puppy with a short attention span – all it takes is a quick squeeze. Our test puppy kept playing after she was done, so she must have loved it!

My favorite of these squeakers was punctured during testing and didn’t make any noise anymore.

Luckily the last three races were squeakers.

We were careful to offer the broken squeaker to our pup so that he could extend the life of the remaining squeakers.

The dog tug toys thatdidn’tmake the cut

Most products we review can’t be winners. They just don’t stand up to the competition. And while each of the following brands of tug toys had something going for them, they didn’t stand up to the competition.

We’re not saying you shouldn’t buy any of these products, but there’s definitely an unhealthy dependence on certain skin care products that we’ll explain.

But it’s a tough category, full of great products. With so many choices for this toy, the bar for winning has been set really high.

These tug toys were not a big hit. The Petmate Dogzilla also had our favorite figure-eight design, and the Kong is still a very popular tug toy, but the Jitterbug wasn’t the biggest hit

The rubber was firmer than the other two brands, but it felt similar to them. It offered texture and was comparable in price to our other picks.

This design is another of the many designs in the shape of an 8. This one is from a very famous brand.

The Kong Tug Toy had finger grips that made it easier to win a game of tug-of-war against our pups.

Although it’s a great product, it was overpriced and didn’t offer enough to compete with our top pick.

I love the easy-to-carry handle of the Nylabone Go!Active.

It wasn’t until we noticed the significant amount of wear on the neck of the ball that we began to question whether there was a problem.

What is a dog tug toy?

Tug toys are fun for all ages. With so many different types to choose from, they’re a perfect toy for all ages!

This is an argument. However, many toys are either too short or not designed with pulling in mind.

Some toys are incredibly chew-resistant, but will fall apart if you tug them in two directions.

This tug toy is perfect for anyone who plays tug-of-war games with their dog. It’s designed to be pulled back and forth between you and your dog without breaking and it’s a favorite dog toy for experienced tuggers.

The ideal dog tug toy should be designed so that it is easy to grab with your hands as well as for your dog to hold it in its mouth.

It’s a fair game, but you will need to master both hands, since it is still possible for one player to win.

There are many different kinds of rope toys. One of the most popular is heavy-duty rope, similar to the kind that you played with when you were a child but much shorter.

What are the different types of dog tug toys?

It may surprise you to learn that there are two different styles of tug toys.

Some require you to play with your dog, while others let your dog play tug-of-war even when you are not around.

1. Handheld tug toys

Grab a handle and let your dog grab the other.

If you want to play like the pros, you have to put in the work. So get off the couch and go pull!

Without your love, it’s just a chew toy. This means that once you are too tired to continue, the game has to end – even if your dog doesn’t

This is the most common style of tug toy. It’s also the type we reviewed for this guide.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Hundreds of styles
  • Allows you to bond with your dog

Cons:

  • Requires two players
  • Exhausting

2. Tether tug toys

Of course, you remember that. Tetherball is one of the best toys to play with other kids.

You can also give your dog a rope toy, but this one is designed to play tug-of-war.

This pet toy will put your dog in a great mood as he struggles to keep up with his tug-of-war partner.

It’s fun to pull your favorite puppy, kitten or dog. It’s even better when you have to do it all from the comfort of your couch!

This is the problem with solo play: You’re out of sight and out of mind.

I remember when my dog was a puppy. When we had a great game of tug, he proceeded to tear the petunias out of my garden.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t nearby when the incident occurred, so I had to take drastic measures to curb this dangerous behavior.

Pros:

  • Allows your dog to tug whenever he wants
  • Can alleviate dog boredom while you are at work

Cons:

  • You are not around to caution bad behavior
  • More expensive
  • Few brands to choose from

Conclusion

Your dog will love the soft fleece exterior that has a unique textured pattern designed to keep them occupied.
